A 7-mile multi-use trail system has been integrated into this historic community using canal towpaths, stream corridors, and abandoned railroads. The trails also include a section of the Wabash Heritage Trail, which is envisioned to follow along the Wabash River and span 19 counties.
Location: Delphi
- States: Indiana
- Counties: Carroll
Land was donated by local property owners for 100% of this seven-mile plus trail system. Volunteers created these unique trails. Funding for development, signage, and basic facilities came mostly from the Indiana Dept of Natural Resources Division of Outdoor Recreation Wabash Heritage Corridor Fund. The Canal Assoc. donated much of the acquired land to the City of Delphi for grant match and then leased these trail lands back for 99 years. They are maintained by volunteers on 3rd Saturday workdays. Volunteers are recognized every year on National Trails Day with USDA/NRCS Earth Team hats/shirts.
