The Elk Mtn. Trail is 9.6 miles long. It begins at Road #113 At Brush Pass and ends at Elk Mtn. Lookout.
Location: Flathead National Forest, approx. 30 miles from Whitefish.

The Elk Mtn. Trail is 9.6 miles long. It begins at Road #113 At Brush Pass and ends at Elk Mtn. Lookout.
The trail was originally built in the early 1930s as a part of a fire access system. It was primarily used to haul supplies to the lookout tower on Elk Mountain. Long-distance views are common along the trail with the Elk Mountain Lookout site offering views of portions of the headwaters of the Flathead and Kootenai River.
