The Miccosukee Greenway consists of a linear design covering over five miles adjacent to the historical Miccosukee Canopy Road. Part of the conceptual plan for this greenway was to serve as a buffer from ever-encroaching development, protecting this living treasure as well as several turn-of-the-century home sites, an 1800s cemetery, and hints of earlier trade roads that crosshatch the property. This venture was the first step in Leon County developing a Greenways and Trails Master Plan, which intends to link the entire breadth and width of Leon County by a trail system accessible by bicycle, horse, or on foot.
