The only system trail in the Cache la Poudre Wilderness, the summit of Mt. McConnel provides views of the canyon carved by the South Fork of the Cache la Poudre River and further south to the Mummy Range

Location: In the Poudre Canyon approximately 33 miles west of Fort Collins, CO on CO highway 14

With a starting elevation of 6,646 ft at the trailhead and climbing to 7,980 ft, Mt. McConnel is approximately 2.3 miles to the summit. The Mt. McConnel Trail is mainly in wilderness, and is the upper loop off of the Kreutzer Nature Trail. The eastern portion of Mt. McConnel is much more of a primitive trail, and can be difficult, care should be exercised.
