The green-blazed Forest Trail starts at the top of the hill near the Home Garden and leads you downhill past the Ice Pond. The trail turns right at the junction with the Meadow Trail and makes a 1.7-mile round trip from this point. This has very steep sections. If you bear right at the fork further along you will walk under a White Pine plantation planted by FDR in 1935.
The yellow-blazed Meadow Trail leads through forest and along the edge of the meadow, with excellent views of the FDR Home and nearby Red House.
The Hyde Park Trail, marked with green and white Tulip-tree disks, passes through the site using the Forest Trail and continues to the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site.
From all trails, it is a steep uphill walk back to the parking area and Visitor Center.
Henry Wallace Visitor Center info desk, restrooms, and seasonal cafe are available.
Moderate walking on dirt-surfaced woods roads with some steep hills. Tulip-tree markers and green blazes.
Parking is at the main parking area for the FDR National Historic Site.

Nice trails through the woods
Nice trails, some wide and some narrow, through the woods behind FDR’s home. As stated by a previous reviewer, the trails connect to other trails leading to Val-Kill, Roosevelt Farm Lane, and the Vanderbilt Mansion. Hiked August 14, 2024. Patricia Ellis (formerly “Janie Walker”)
