The Stone Mountain Historic Trail is a 5-mile historic trail that explores much of Stone Mountain Park's Natural District around the base of the mountain, with a mile section going up and over the west side of the mountain (crossing the walk-up trail). The trail is marked by white arrows on granite posts and rectangular blazes on trees or the rock surface. While the trail primarily passes through the mature oak-hickory forest, views of the lakes, streams, and mountains are common. Frequent mammal and bird sightings are possible year-round. A one-mile section of the trail passes through the commercial section of the park and allows for a water or restroom stop. Dogs on a 6' leash are allowed on the trail.
